Aantekeningen: De geschiedenis van de naam van het esdorp Buinen is als volgt. Drenthe behoorde in de middeleeuwen samen met Twente en andere gebieden in het oosten van het land tot het Graafschap Bentheim . Hiermee was Drenthe dus Saksischgebied. Op oude landkaarten die op het kasteel in Bad Bentheim ter inzage liggen wordt Buinen aangeduid als "Buune". In het hedendaagse Drents is het nog steeds "Buu'n". Op recentere kaarten wordt "Buyne" vermeld. Later heeft men hier "Buinen" (vernederlandst) van gemaakt. In het hedendaagse Duits (ook een Saksische taal) zou men het dorp wellicht kunnen aanduiden onder de naam "B
